Helsinki 2 of 5

I visited an area called Senate Square that contained a number of buildings for arts, culture, politics and education as well as the landmark Helsinki Cathedral that was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel in the early 19th Century.
Not far from the square is the impressive Uspenski Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in Western Europe. This was built as a tribute to Czar Nicholas 1 during the Russian occupation of Finland.
