Tallinn, Estonia

Tallinn is the capitol of Estonia and was founded in 1154.  The old town has a lower section and another section at the top of a hill.  Both sections have picturesque medieval architecture. Independence for Estonia was only gained when the Russians left in 1994.

Our cruise ship docked close to the old town so it did not take long to walk there.  There was an old but high church tower that I was attracted to and decided to go into the church to get to the top of the tower.  However the climb up was quite tough with narrow steep steps circling up to the top but the views were well worth the effort.

The cobbled city streets with the curious old architecture made walking around the city so interesting.

A challenging walk up the hill brought the Russian Orthodox church into view.  In many ways this city reminded me of Riga in Latvia.
